The original and the most loved by all – the round brilliant cut – is undoubtedly the most radiating cut of diamond for an engagement ring. Firstly, what is a diamond cut? A cut of a diamond is referred to the facets, symmetry and dimensions that allow maximum reflection to bring out the brilliance in a diamond.
A Round Brilliant is cut in 57 facets making it the most attractive diamond; it radiates the most light, making it visible from lengths. It is a classy timeless piece that will always have a special place in a bride’s heart. However, the trend of engagement rings has seen a change where more brides have started wanting fancy cut diamonds such as cushion, princess or emerald cuts sparkling on their fingers. Any shape other than a round brilliant is considered a fancy cut stone.
Cushion cut diamonds go way back in time to the 19th century, when it was known as an old mine cut. The name is derived from its soft edges and rounded corners that resemble a pillow. This shape with a rich history became less preferable over time as it was a rare find. Nonetheless in the last few decades we have seen this beautiful cut stunned by royalties and celebrities such as Meghan Marckle and Kim Kardashian. Cushion cut diamond Is most often seen encircled with a halo of round brilliants giving it a vintage look of sophistication. It is personally my favorite.
Emerald cut has been seen being flaunted by renowned celebrities like JLO and Beyoncé. Complimenting their bold personalities, emerald cut is the most suiting choice. Emerald cut is for more audacious women; who don’t mind diving into the unknown. this cut doesn’t shine as much as the other fancy cut diamonds, as it does not have radiating facet lines in which its cut. It is however, a big stone giving it a regal presence when worn.
After some sought out regal and classy pieces, princess cut is one of a kind for its modern and minimalistic demeanour. It is usually seen on a slim band with or without diamonds without a halo set in a tiffany setting; just the princess cut on its own wins the show. It is a more modern cut as well as a more modern approach on engagement rings; with its presence being less than a 100 years. This cut has a sense of romantic appeal and it sure does stand out.
Other radiating fancy cut stones include – the oval, the pear and the heart shapes. The heart shaped diamond is not commonly appreciated as a center piece for engagement ring. It is a fairly modern cut and considered less natural in terms of its shape. However, it is a very cute cut and definitely the most romantic. The oval and pear shapes are growing in fame but definitely recommended to those who have slender and long fingers as the other diamonds may look too dainty.
Summary
A round brilliant has its set parameters to make it the perfect diamond to ensure the sparkle when worn. Cushion cut is definitely the new eye candy, that has almost reached the radiance of a round brilliant while looking considerably bigger in size than it. The other cuts are a personal preference and each have their own stunning look.
